Cadelts Sanford Ray Ballou,
Jr., and Joseph Stevens Dukes
of Johnsonville were graduated
froDt The Citadel, the Military
College of South ,Carolina, in a
colorful
ceremony.
Each
· received his diploma and a
congratulatory handshake from
Lt. Gen. George M. Seignious,
II, president of The Citadel.
Cadets Ballou and Dukes
were awarded · a Bachelor of
Science degree in business
administration.

A Dean's List student at the
militar,y college, Cadet Ballou
•
held the rank of captain within
the Corps of Cadets dUring his
senior year- and served as
commander of his company. He
· was an Air Force ROTC student
and his name appeared on the
Commandant's Distinguished
Service List for superior
milita~y performance.
During Ballou's junior year,
he was one of 14 students to gain
coveted membership in the
•

•

Junior Sword Drill-a precision
saber unit.
His parents are Mr. and Ms.
Sanford R. Ballou, Sr.
As a senior, Cadet Dukes was
a second lieutenant within the
Corps and was athletic officer
of his company. Dukes, also
enrolled in the Air Force ROTC
program, was a member of the
senior class board of directors
and the elite Palmetto Company which participated in the
reenactment of the firing on the
Federal steamer STAR OF
THE WEST .
During
recent
awards
ceremonies, Dukes was named
Outstanding Athletic Officer.
This presentation is given to the
athletic officer who, in the
opinion of his fellow athletic ·
officers, the regimental athletic
officer, and the director of
intramurals, has made the
greatest contribution to the
intra1nural program.
Cadet Dukes
is the son of Mr.
and .. Mrs. Joesph P. Dukes.
