The old safe at the Johnsonville Pharmacy

Title

The old safe at the Johnsonville Pharmacy

Description

The old safe was the perfect place for the cash register and charge account book. The old store did not allow for self service due to space constraints. Until the new pharmacy building opened in August 1982, customers would discreetly ask the pharmacist for contraceptives and personal hygiene products due to social norms in most South Carolina small towns. Most items were stocked but hidden discreetly in the prescription area behind the soda fountain mirror.
